Wondering what to wear for your newborn session? Hopefully these few questions can get you going in the right direction.
I know picking out photo worthy outfits can be stress especially when a baby is on the way and you have a million different things to do. I also feel that as a new mom you go through a lot and you deserve a new outfit for a special occasion.
What to wear for a Newborn Session Question 1:
How do you want your newborn photographs to feel? Casual, Elegant, Timeless, Bright, Airy?
A busy small print during any session will impact the final images and distract from the people. I always recommend going for timeless neutral solid fabrics when you can not decide. I love the dress this mom decided to wear because the white background gives a light feeling but not visually distracting. In twenty years when you look back at your babies newborn photos you will want your baby to stand out and not focus on the bright pink pock-a-dot you decided to wear. Creams and white are timeless and clean plus the added bonus is that it is great for all skin tones or spit up (mom of three here!).
I always recommend wearing “wedding” attire even for in-home sessions. This way you feel dressed up but comfortable. Mom should wear a dress. A dress will make you feel most elegant and again they are timeless compared to the ever changing jean styles.
What to wear for a Newborn Session Question 2:
Where do you want to hang your images in your home? Baby’s Nursery, Living Room, Family Room, Hallway?
This question can also influence the colors of clothing you select so that it complements the tones already in your room. Neutrals are timeless and fresh….are you noticing a pattern here? Creams and whites will complement most spaces as you make design updates or even move.
