Why Baby Milestone Sessions (6mo / 1yr Cake Smash) Are Worth Doing

Have you ever had one of those moments when you realize how fast time is flying by? In the blink of an eye, your newborn is suddenly halfway to their first birthday. As parents, we are constantly busy managing daily life while trying to savor those fleeting moments with our little ones. That’s why I’m such a strong advocate for baby milestone sessions. Capturing your baby’s unique milestones, like the 6-month or 1-year mark, gives you lasting memories of these sweet stages that are often overlooked and quickly forgotten in the daily hustle. I promise it’s an experience worth having and cherishing.

We all know that the first year of a baby’s life is packed with incredible growth and changes. While parents juggle diaper changes, toy cleanup, and midnight feedings, these in-between moments can pass by unnoticed. This is exactly why I love to shine a spotlight on the 6-month milestone. At this time, your little one is learning, exploring, and their personality is truly beginning to blossom. They love simple things, like a game of peekaboo or the warmth of a raspberry on their cheek. These joyful interactions remind us how precious this age is and why capturing these genuine moments in a photograph is so valuable.

Capturing the Sweet Spot

Around six to seven months, your baby is typically an independent sitter, giving them a whole new perspective on the world. This is the perfect time to schedule a session as your baby can sit up on their own, and there is no need to worry about them tumbling over. Their little giggles and curiosity are at a peak, and having this on film gives you images you’ll treasure for a lifetime.

Preparing for the first year milestone session

  • Timing is Key: We schedule around nap times to ensure well-rested and happy kiddos. A session post-morning nap tends to be the sweet spot for most families.
  • What to Wear: I offer a variety of adorable rompers from my client closet that complement the outfits used in your newborn session. Choosing something neutral ensures the focus remains on your baby and their joyful expressions.

Inclusiveness is Important

During any milestone session, siblings and other family members are welcome to join in. We aim to capture not just your baby’s milestone but the warmth and connection of your entire family.

Session Flexibility

Kids will be kids, if something isn’t working or they are just all done we will pivot hopefully allowing for a more relaxed vibe overall. The power of a redirection with kids is very powerful and unlike adults kids will often try again with time. Each session is typically around 30 to 60 minutes but every family and baby is different. If we need more time to capture the perfect shots, that’s absolutely fine.

Why does this matter?

The essence of these milestone sessions is to capture the authentic and sweet moments that highlight your baby’s personality and growth stage. These photos become time capsules of love, laughter, and pure joy that you can revisit anytime. More than just images on a screen, they are pieces of your family’s history to be cherished.

Let’s capture this beautiful stage together.

By securing a date now, we ensure that you don’t miss out on preserving these precious memories. Reach out to schedule your baby’s milestone session today, and remember: these photos are investments in your family’s legacy. I look forward to being your guide in this beautiful journey.
