Are you thinking about first birthday cake smash photos for your little one? They’re such a blast! But do you know what to expect during a cake smash session at my studio? No worries—I’m here to guide you through it! Let’s break down a typical first birthday cake smash session, so you’ll know exactly what to expect before, during, and after your photography session

How it Start booking your Cake Smash Photograph:

If you’re new to Marie Koleka Photography, the best way to get in touch is through my website. And if you’re reading this blog, you’re already in the right place! The easiest way to get the ball rolling is by scheduling a phone call through my contact form.

I recommend bringing your little one into the studio about two weeks before their birthday for the cake smash session. This gives me plenty of time to personally edit and return your images before their official big day. Once we have a date and time booked, documents signed, style tips sent over, the studio set up, and the cake baked, we’re well on our way.

I know it sounds like a lot of details to organize, but don’t worry—I’m here to guide you every step of the way! I specialize in creating simple, light, and timeless photographs for all my first birthday cake smash sessions.

The Day of the Cake Smash Photographs:

When the big day arrives, we’ll kick things off with some family photos, including Mom, Dad, and any siblings. This helps everyone feel more comfortable in front of the camera, and it’s important to capture the whole family during this milestone moment.

It doesn’t take long before one-year-olds are exploring the studio independently, and I fully expect them to be “busy” and get a little workout in the process! I always follow the child’s lead, as long as they’re safe and having fun. About halfway through the session, I typically switch up the backdrop and give everyone a quick break, with an outfit change if desired.

Then, we dive into the cake smash! You never quite know how messy it will get, but it’s always so much fun to capture those priceless expressions.

I absolutely love getting to capture little ones as they grow, especially when it’s been a whole year, and I can see so much more of their blossoming personality! I’ll never forget Hudson’s newborn session—he was one of the best sleepers I’ve ever had. Fast forward to his cake smash session, and he was the complete opposite! His mom and I definitely got a workout trying to keep up with him. But he had the best time cuddling with mom and banging on the cake like a drum!

Wrapping up your First Birthday Cake Smash Photos:

As I mentioned earlier, it typically takes me a few weeks to cull, edit, and upload your images to an online gallery. Once your gallery is ready, you’ll have the opportunity to easily order professional prints and products with just a few clicks. Plus, you can have peace of mind knowing that these products are built to last for generations. Not all photo printing companies are created equal, and I’m dedicated to ensuring that my clients have access to top-quality prints that will stand the test of time.
